When a brand-new commercial site on 203 Great South Road, Auckland opened its doors, four different tenants were expected to share a single Watercare meter. On paper, it looked simple. In reality, it created a headache. With one bill divided four ways, there was no fair way to know who used what. Tenants worried they were paying more than their share, and the landlord was caught in the middle.

That’s when Smart Metering was brought in. Competing solutions had been considered, but they all stopped short of solving the entire problem. What the landlord really wanted was a complete end-to-end service – not just meters, not just data, but a partner who could handle everything from installation to billing.

Working alongside Laser Plumbing and Waterware, Smart Metering delivered exactly that. We installed four B METERS Hydrodigit-S1 sub-meters, paired with a secure LoRaWAN base station to transmit usage data straight into our cloud platform. This marked the first commercial installation in New Zealand using this new generation of Hydrodigit meters – a milestone that combined cutting-edge hardware with our proven billing platform.
